CEYLON BISTRO | 2018

Ceylon Bistro (Nizhniy Novgorod)

Ceylon Bistro is a project inspired by the distant island in the Indian Ocean with its rave of colors and abundance of tastes, unique heritage and tropical flavors. This is a collaborative project by Fruit Design Studio and Freak Fabrique.

The wave symbol is one of the most recognizable bistro identity staples. Almost all of Ceylon’s interior is the result of rethinking the functions and aesthetics of vintage stuff found and brought from around the world.

Take stained glass, for example. This stained glass window waited to become part of this project for a long time – in the 90s it was ised in a restaurant at Bolshaya Dmitrovka street in Moscow and came to us in frayed condition. We were both trying to restore this stained glass and find a good place for it. We decided to leave the walls untouched and in genuine scuffed condition.

The high ceiling and its structure remind us of caissons, and we matched it with original floral ornament resulting in a a good storyline. Lotus to lotus.

Lastly, a lot of attention was given to metal, tropical gardening and woodwork used in the interior.
